03. Connecting
- Download the BetterMe app by scanning the QR code on the box.
- Create an account or log in to your existing account.
- Go to the More tab and tap BetterMe Smart Scale.
- Make sure to turn on Bluetooth on your phone.
- Place the scale near your phone and follow the on-screen instructions in the app to connect.
The BetterMe Smart Scale does not maintain a continuous Bluetooth connection with your smartphone. Do not try to connect it via your phone's Bluetooth settings. Connect the scale through the BetterMe app instead.
Once connected, you can view your smart scale measurements in the app.
The scale saves your measurements automatically. The next time you sync it with the app, all measurements taken since your last sync will be transferred. To keep your records accurate, we recommend syncing the scale with your app each time you weigh in.
Using the BetterMe app
When the scale is connected to the BetterMe app, the measurement units are synced automatically.
- The smart scale uses the measurement units selected in the app.
- If you change the units in the app, the updated units will be applied to the scale the next time you step on it. This ensures consistency between the scale and the app.
04. Measurement units
To change the weight measurement units, follow these steps:
- Turn the scale upside down.
- Locate the button on the back of the scale.
- Press the button once to activate the screen.
- Press the button again to switch between pounds (lb) and kilograms (kg).
When first powered on without connecting to the app, the scale displays weight in pounds (lb) by default.
05. Data transfer
The BetterMe Smart Scale sends data to the BetterMe app via Bluetooth.
To transfer your data:
- Turn on Bluetooth and open the BetterMe app on your smartphone.
- Keep your phone close to the scale.
- With the app open, step onto the scale barefoot and wait for the measurement to complete.
- Remain on the scale for a few seconds until the data appears in the app.
If you step onto the BetterMe Smart Scale but open the BetterMe app after the scale's LED screen has turned off, the data will not transfer.
However, the measurement is saved in the scale's memory and will be transferred to the app during the next successful sync when the app is open.
Be sure to open the app before weighing to ensure real-time data transfer.
06. Weighing
- Place the scale on a hard, flat surface.
- Step onto the scale with bare, dry feet, making sure your feet touch the metal electrode areas.
- Stand still while the screen lights up and the weight measurement increases and stabilizes.
- Step off the scale once the displayed weight stops blinking. If your smart scale is connected to the BetterMe app, your metrics will show in the app.
07. Multiple users
Multiple people can use your BetterMe Smart Scale. However, depending on how it's used, your weight data in the BetterMe app may be affected. Please read and follow the information below to ensure your weight data remains accurate.
Occasional weight check without tracking their weight
Other people can step onto your BetterMe Smart Scale and view their weight directly on the scale's LED screen.
To view additional metrics such as BMI, body fat, muscle mass, visceral fat, and water percentage, the BetterMe app and an account are required.
If someone else weighs themselves using your scale, their data may appear in your statistics and affect your charts in the app. When the app detects unusual weigh-ins, you will have the option to confirm or delete them.
The app displays the most recent measurement of the day in your main chart.
If others want to track their own progress
Each person should follow:
- Install the BetterMe app on their phone.
- Log in to an existing account or create a new one.
- Connect your BetterMe Smart Scale to their account by going to the More → BetterMe Smart Scale.
Using one scale with multiple accounts
- The scale does not maintain a continuous Bluetooth connection.
- Measurements are transferred to the phone that has Bluetooth turned on and the BetterMe app open at the time of weighing.
- If multiple users are nearby, make sure only the intended phone has Bluetooth enabled and the app open to ensure the data transfers correctly.
08. Accuracy tips
Use these tips to get accurate and consistent measurements:
- Use the scale barefoot. Body composition metrics cannot be measured while wearing shoes or socks.
- Make sure your feet are dry.
- Place the scale on a hard, flat surface. Avoid soft surfaces such as carpet or linoleum.
- Distribute your weight evenly between both feet while standing on the scale.
- Weigh yourself at the same time each day to track consistent trends. Weight and body composition may vary throughout the day.
For more consistent results, weigh yourself under similar conditions each time—for example, in the morning before eating or drinking. Changes in food intake, hydration, and activity levels throughout the day may affect your measurements.
If the app is open, your weight appears in real time immediately after you finish weighing.
What to expect when the scale resets
- The smart scale automatically zeroes when it turns on.
- The display stays off until you step onto the scale.
- When you step on, the display lights up and your weight reading begins to appear.
- If you see something other than 0.0 lb or 0.00 kg after moving the scale or pressing the UNIT button, don't worry—this is normal.
- The scale may need to recalibrate. Step off the scale and wait until the display shows 0.0 lb or 0.00 kg, then step back on to weigh yourself.
There are two possible reasons why your BetterMe Smart Scale won't auto-zero:
- The scale was moved. Moving the scale can cause it to lose its calibration. Scales are typically calibrated to detect weight when they are on a flat, stable surface. When moved, the scale may need to be recalibrated to reset it to zero.
- You pressed the unit change button on the back of the scale and it hasn't recalibrated yet.
To reset the scale, follow these steps:
- Place the scale on a hard, flat surface.
- Lightly step onto the scale with one foot.
- As soon as the number starts to increase, immediately step off the scale.
- The display should reset to zero.
