One 2019 study done in 128 older adults aged between 65 to 80 years old found an association between added sugar intake and blood pressure in women. While this is often the major cause of this illness, a little known fact to many is that the consumption of too much <a href=\"https:\/\/betterme.world\/articles\/healthiest-sugar\/\">added sugar<\/a> also puts you at a risk of this illness.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When you consume more than the recommended grams of sugar per day, it can cause fatty buildup in the liver which then leads to liver disease. One 2015 study revealed that fructose (especially found in high-fructose corn syrup in sodas, energy drinks and more) is one of the main contributors to non alcoholic liver disease (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC4405421\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">5<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">). A review done in 2018, further confirmed these findings and added that high-sugar diets not only increase the risk of non-alcoholic liver disease (NAFLD), but also non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/29408694\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">9<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">).<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\">\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Higher_Risk_Of_Atherosclerosis\"><\/span><b>Higher Risk Of Atherosclerosis<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mayoclinic, <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">atherosclerosis is the buildup of plaque &#8211; fats, cholesterol and other substances &#8211; in and on your artery wall. This buildup causes your arteries to narrow, which blocks blood flow or even blood clots if the plaque bursts.
